Here at Baja and Back! RV Tours, we pride ourselves by offering very interesting travel destinations and activities in Mexico! We operate a slow-paced, non-regimented tour with a maximum of 15 RV's on each tour. This coupled with the experience of over 30 years in RV travel, allows us to provide our guests with the knowledge and service they deserve.
OUR CONTRACTING POLICY:
Our policy is to take people as "Tailgunner" trainees, with the aim to lead the same tour next season as our "Wagonmaster". In order to learn our routes and itineraries, as well as learning our unique "host" style, which makes us just that bit better than the competition, we do not hire on anyone, regardless of experience, without our personal assessment as a Tailgunner first. Couples are given preference. Strong leadership skills and social adeptness are required attributes. People who enjoy life and the company of others always do well.
SUMMARY OF TAILGUNNER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Our Tailgunners responsibilities are few. Mechanical ability is preferred, but being handy on vehicles is usually enough. The first day at rendezvous is probably the most you will work during the entire trip. The Tailgunner must perform a very thorough inspection of all vehicles going on the trip, checking lights, tires, belts, hitches, tow vehicles, safety items such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
All units must have passed a recently safety inspection and have fresh oil and filters. An entire check-list has been devised to make the inspection go smoothly. After the first day, the Tailgunner travels as the last rig in the group at all times, while maintaining close and frequent radio contact with the Wagonmaster. In case of an unexpected problem or breakdown, the tailgunner is obligated to stop with the guest and assist or get the disabled unit into a local mechanic shop, where repairs can be done.
If the tailgunner is very mechanically inclined and wishes to do so, he may, at his convenience, repair or perform routine maintenance on guest's vehicles along the route at a pre-established work rate (usually $30 - $40/hour is standard), for which he will keep any profits made.
CONTRACTS
The first time tailgunner trainee receives the tour at no charge. Those showing real promise will have some expenses paid for them. The next year, or later in the season, they may lead the same tour at a contracted price of $100.00 a day. If you have prior tourleading or language skills, the fee may be negotiable. This is a Dependent Contractor arrangement, not an employee position - there are no withholdings.
